Raymond draws experience from helping companies and investors in startup law, financings, mergers, acquisitions and technology transactions.

Raymond is the managing and Founding Partner of Bytelex Advocates. He is well known as the grand-father of tech-startup law in Uganda and much of East Africa. He started his career at Katende Ssempebwa and Co. Advocates, Uganda’s premier and tier 1 firm where he did his internships and clerkship.
He then went on to start Bytelex as an experiment to determine if there was a need for tech-startup law in Uganda and the rest of East-Africa. The rest is history, Bytelex has represented over 80 startups, some of which have made it to prestigious accelerators such as Facebook Start Accelerator Program. To date the startups that he has represented have raised over $10,000,000 in venture funding.
He has advised notable companies such as Zipline - the largest drone logistics startup in the world, Sellio and Teheca where he has acquired first hand knowledge of how to develop a product or service and the legal-business considerations. His knowledge on product teams makes him realistic, not a dream crusher but with the requisite experience to develop a product to market within reasonable confines of the law.
Collectively his practice of over 5 years involves product/service design, management and corporate law advisory in; business formations, Vc financings,investment and capital markets advisory, Intellectual property advisory, mergers and acquisitions, project and infrastructural finance and cybersecurity.
He has practiced law in over 5 jurisdictions and is company secretary and board member to over 30 companies. He understands how companies, products and services are built, maintained, financed, and how this relates with the law.
He is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and holds an LLM from silicon Valley’s pre-eminent University of California Berkeley, an LLB from Makerere University and a Dip. legal practice LDC.

Alba Godfrey

Managing Partner

Alba draws on her multinational experience and background in political science to advise clients in the healthcare, food and nutrition, consumer goods, and retail sectors.

Alba moved to Brussels and joined Nove in early 2016, prior to which she completed a traineeship in the editing and production sector of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, in Vienna. She has also worked at AÇEV, a Turkish NGO focusing on issues related to early childhood education and development, where she was part of the international relations team, conducting research and liaising with partners.
