Overview
Irene is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda with over 12 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer, built advising clients across diverse sectors on finance and tax matters. She combines corporate finance, tax law and accounting to guide clients in structuring their businesses and investment vehicles.
She is passionate about rethinking legal structures and arrangements in a way that enables the mobilisation of local capital for the benefit of startups and small and medium enterprises.
Experience & work highlights
- As chief legal and corporate secretary on the Investment for Industrial Transformation and Employment (INVITE) Project, drafted the standard Line of Credit and Master Guarantee Agreements for financial-intermediary loans extended to regulated institutions for the benefit of SMEs.
- As legal expert on the Bank of Uganda Okusevinga project, advised on the legal and regulatory aspects of creating a collective investment scheme for the sale of government securities to the retail market.
- Advised Gasol Stations (U) Limited on a capital reorganization to raise additional equity of approximately US$140,000 to support its market expansion in Uganda.
- Advised and supported Crafthouse Technologies Limited in obtaining a payment-systems operator licence from the Bank of Uganda.
- Advised Yellow Card Financial (U) Limited on the application of the National Payment Systems Act to their virtual-asset wallet business, supporting their payment-systems sandbox application.
- Advised Veron Intercontinental Shipping Investments Limited on a US$125,000 Project Preparation Facility from Uganda Development Bank for feasibility studies on a 90-container marine vessel.
- Advised Absolute Energy Africa Limited on a Sale and Leaseback of a portion of a Solar PV generation plant to finance construction, with ownership passing on lease expiry.
- Advised the Bulindi Chimpanzee Community Project on a carbon-credit-based financing arrangement advanced by Dutch Green B.V. for a conservation and biodiversity project in south-western Uganda.
