Overview

Martin is an accomplished commercial and intellectual-property lawyer with over a decade of experience, currently serving as Partner at Bytelex Advocates. He holds an LLM in Intellectual Property and Competition Law from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre.

He has built a strong practice spanning litigation, regulatory advisory and IP portfolio management — representing clients from precedent-setting employment disputes to cross-border arbitration and brand protection.

• Successfully representing the former Chairperson of the Uganda Law Reform Commission against the Attorney General of Uganda before the Industrial Court, for breach of employment contract and recovery of unpaid contractual emoluments.
• Represented the former Deputy Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission against the Attorney General in the Civil Division of the High Court for unfair and unlawful termination of employment.
• Successfully representing Anik Industries (U) Limited in a labour dispute over alleged unfair and unlawful termination brought by former employees, valued at approximately US$50,000.
• Successfully representing Anik Industries (U) Limited in an arbitral VAT dispute on the sale of part of the business, plant and machinery valued at US$900,000.
• Successfully represented a local construction company in arbitration against the Civil Aviation Authority for the recovery of UGX 147,000,000.
• Representing Absolute Energy (Rwanda) at the Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) in a contractual dispute worth US$180,000.

• Advised on and participated in preparing a compliance and regulatory report for Bujagali Energy Limited, a major electricity generator in Uganda.
• Advised Culipa Limited in preparing compliance and regulatory reports for Bank of Uganda Payment Service Provider licence applications.
• Advised a local mineral-exploration company on an Option and Exclusivity Agreement for the transfer of iron-ore mineral rights to a foreign steel manufacturer.
• Advised Alyssa Marie Foundation Limited, a non-profit, on governance structures and Human Resource policy formulation.
• Company Secretary to Kyewalyanga Properties Limited, advising on Human Resource frameworks and policy development.
• Local Counsel to Anik (U) Limited, a leading manufacturer of cotton/tissue-based products, on governance, contract review and dispute resolution.
